Iran supplies large chunk of global pomegranate demand

Iran is well-placed as one of the world's largest pomegranate producers, supplying 30 percent of the global demand.

Iranian Minister of Agricultural Jihad said at the opening of the 14th Badroud Pomegranate Festival that "twenty-two percent of the world's pomegranate demand is supplied in Iran."

Javad Sadatinejad added, "About 6 million tons of pomegranates are produced annually in the world, of which 1.3 million tons are produced in Iran."

The country has a long history of pomegranate cultivation, and its climate and soil are well-suited to the crop.

Iran exports pomegranates to a number of countries and is working to increase its share of the global pomegranate market.
